Who Owns the Most Bitcoin- Let's Review the Biggest BTC HODLers

With Bitcoin holding steady above $110k for weeks, many are left wondering: is it already too late to jump in? Many experts say that it's never too late to start investing in Bitcoin. There's continued opportunity in Bitcoin investing, but the potential returns are different now.
Many agree that the future is bright, thanks to increased attention on Bitcoin ETFs and favorable regulatory signals. Returns aren't they used to be since the 'explosive days' of gains and frenzied speculations of early adoption are no longer present.
For most analysts, life-changing gains are less likely to happen, but steady and long-term appreciation remains a possibility. And knowing that there are only 21 million Bitcoins in circulation, there will always be a few bold enough to have bought and held more Bitcoins than the rest. And it's safe to say that this small circle of Bitcoin hodlers have been in this industry long enough—during early adoption, at the time of challenges and regulatory uncertainties, and now it's mainstreaming, targeting $120k.
But who are these Bitcoin holders? And among this group, who holds the most Bitcoins? In this article, we'll list the top personalities who own and hold some of the biggest Bitcoin holdings.
Satoshi Nakamoto
As the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto is believed by many as the 'person' who holds the biggest holdings. Analysts estimate that Satoshi owns between 968,000 and 1.1 million Bitcoins as of July 2025. These coins were mined during the infancy of Bitcoin, and they are believed to be spread out across thousands of wallets and remain untouched until today. At current market prices, Satoshi's Bitcoin holdings are estimated to be valued at around $130 billion.
It's also important to note that Satoshi controls nearly 5% of all Bitcoins in circulation, and these have remained idle for years. Many speculate that by simply holding on to Bitcoin, Satoshi drives home the point that it's designed to promote a decentralized financial system, and not intended to create wealth.
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the twins who became popular after the Social Network movie, also hold a sizeable amount of Bitcoins. According to some estimates, they hold around 70,000 BTC each, for a total holdings of 140,000 BTC. This estimate is primarily based on their early investment in 2023, when the top digital asset was only trading at around $150.
It is believed that the two have kept a sizeable part of their holdings untouched. And if we're going to estimate its market value according to current prices, then the Winklevosses are now looking at a $7 billion fortune, making them two of the largest individual BTC holders.
Aside from their heavy involvement in Bitcoin, the twins have expanded their interests in recent years to include other cryptocurrencies and the setting up of their crypto exchange, Gemini. The Winklevosses' early involvement in Bitcoin and their decision to expand into other interests, including Gemini, reflected their foresight and business acumen.
Changpeng Zhao (CZ)
Changpeng Zhao (CZ) is the co-founder and former Binance CEO, and is another well-known personality in the crypto circle. However, let's clarify that Mr. Zhao doesn't hold a massive Bitcoin stash, similar to Satoshi or even the Winkleboss brothers. In a previous statement, he said that Bitcoin is just a 'small fraction' of his total crypto portfolio, at just 1.3%. The vast majority of his crypto portfolio is held in Binance Coin (BNB), Binance's native asset.
Tim Draper
Tim Draper may be a relative unknown to some casual crypto investors and retailers, but he's a big name for those who follow the Bitcoin trail. According to most reports, Tom Draper bought approximately 29,656 Bitcoins for $19 million in July 2024 from the auction hosted by the US Marshals Service.
In a statement, he mentioned that he will continue to buy more of the asset, but declined to comment or share the actual number or value. Right now, blockchain analysts estimate that Draper currently owns at least 29,656 Bitcoins as of August 2025. With the Bitcoin price hovering above $100,000, we can estimate that Draper holds over $3 billion.
Aside from his substantial Bitcoin holdings, Draper is also a businessman who invests in technology and other cryptocurrencies. He's into venture capital, as the founder of Draper Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Draper Venture Network, and the Draper University. Mr. Draper has invested in major crypto startups, which include Tezos and Coinbase.
Michael J. Saylor
Michael J. Saylor is one of the most popular (and colorful) personalities in Bitcoin and crypto investing. He's best known as the co-founder and the Executive Chairman of Strategy (formerly called MicroStrategy). Saylor is best known for his passionate support and marketing for Bitcoin and crypto, and at one point, calling it the "apex property of the human race" and a revolution in finance. Mr. Saylor is active on Twitter/X, where he constantly shares his views and commentaries on Bitcoin and the crypto industry.
So, how many Bitcoins does Saylor own? As of August 2025, Saylor's company, Strategy, owns around 628,791 Bitcoins, which is valued at around $71 to $73 billion at current market prices. Interestingly, Strategy controls around 2.8% of the total Bitcoins in circulation, highlighting its role in this industry. Strategy's acquisitions have been funded by a combination of preferred sales, stocks, and debt offerings.
Like the top personalities in this list, Saylor also has personal Bitcoin holdings, though it's not disclosed publicly and in detail. In some of his interviews, Saylor mentioned he owned a sizeable amount, and has not sold any. He believes that Bitcoin is better than fiat currency as a store of value, and it's an effective hedge against inflation. Saylor's strong support for Bitcoin and his amusing and meme-like postings on Twitter/X have made him a poster boy
Other Top Bitcoin holders you should know
Here are a few more honorable mentions known for their influence and sizeable Bitcoin holdings:
Barry Silbert
Barry Silbert, the founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group (DGC), is one of the earliest personalities to get into Bitcoin. Silbert began buying Bitcoin as early as 2011, when the top digital asset was first trading between $7-$8, and using his holdings to invest in early-stage crypto companies. He publicly stated that much of his Bitcoin holdings were used to finance these companies. Silbert's Bitcoin holdings may be insignificant compared to what the Winklevosses or even Greyscale own, but it clearly shows that Silbert was one of the first to see its potential value.
Brian Armstrong
Brian Armstrong, the CEO and co-founder of Coinbase, is another prominent figure in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency space. He's considered one of the early adopters and invested in Bitcoin when it was just trading at less than $10. Like Silbert and the Winklevosses, Armstrong is an early adopter and supporter of blockchain technology.
Armstrong has led his company, Coinbase, in acquiring gold, publicly sttaing that it's superior to gold as a store of value. Public records show that the company has acquired $292 million and 2.509 Bitcoins in Q2 2025 alone. However, Armstrong's personal Bitcoin stash is not publicly available, and analysts and market commentators can only speculate how much he holds.
Elon Musk
Does Elon Musk own Bitcoin? According to public records and state documents, we can say that Musk is a huge supporter of Bitcoin and owns a 'modest amount', so we can't include him in the list of top crypto personalities who hold the most Bitcoins.
However, we can't deny the influence and opinion of Musk, who's passionate about crypto, Dogecoin, and even Bitcoin. In recent years, there have been speculations that Musk is quietly building his holdings, thanks to his likes of posts about stacking Bitcoin.
